Preconception Care: Chinese Herbal Formula

Indications: Regulating reproductive health after stopping the use of birth control; having irregular periods and planning to get pregnant.

Main signs & symptoms: Irregular periods or scanty period flow; may be accompanied by premenstrual symptoms and period cramps; tiredness, low back pain, hair loss or dull lifeless hair.

Action: Nourish Kidney yin and enrich Kidney essence, boost Liver blood and regulate Liver qi to regulate the menstrual cycle and promote conception.

Core ingredients: He Shou Wu (polygonum multiflorum, root), Dang Gui (angelica polymorpha, root), Bu Gu Zhi (psoralea corylifolia, seed) , Tu Si Zi (cuscuta hygrophilae, seed), Nu Zhen Zi (ligustrum lucidum, fruit) and Xiang Fu (cyperus rotundus, rhiz.).

The Formula

Our herbal formulas are made from high quality granulated herbal extracts which are for practitioner dispensing only. The herbal ingredients are GMP certified, and manufactured by the first TCM company to be ISO 9001:2008 certified by SGS.

When you order a herbal formula, we will write up a herbal script designed specifically for you, and customise the basic classical formula by adding and/or subtracting some herbal ingredients. You will receive the herbal formula in powder/granule form, which is potent, efficacious and easy to prepare. Simply dissolve 2 to 3 spoons of the formula in hot water, and take it 2 to 3 times per day, as per the instructions from the herbal practitioner.

The Process

All clients (new and existing) will start with completing an online form for initial herbal medicine consultation.
Once we receive your health data, we will work out the pattern of disharmony in relation to your main health problem. As part of the diagnostic process, we will ask for photos of your tongue, and suggest that you book in a time for a brief video chat via Skype or Facetime.
The individualised herbal formula will be prescribed and dispensed by our qualified herbal medicine practitioner. You can either pick the formula up at our Williamstown clinic, or have the formula mailed to you.

The Benefits

This approach ensures that the formula you are getting treats the presenting symptoms, at the same time resolves the overall pattern of disharmony. It is formulated based on your health history, and your unique physical and emotional constitution makeup.
You can repeat the herbal formula until symptoms are relieved. If you have a chronic condition, the principal formula can be adjusted in terms of dosage and ingredients, as you progress along the treatment process.
Since we have your clinical records, we will be able to prescribe formulas for other conditions or recommend herbal products which best suit your body type.

The Costs

New clients $97 (one-off consultation fee $50 + herbal formula $47 for 7 to 10 days use).
Existing acupuncture or herbal medicine clients: consultation fee is waived.
Repeat of herbal formula: regular dose $47 (7 to 10 days use); large dose $89 (14 to 21 days use)
